Gabion baskets are constructed using double-twisted, hexagonal woven wire mesh in accordance with ASTM A975 standards. The wire utilized in the manufacturing of gabion baskets is made of soft, tensile, heavily galvanized steel.
The double-twist feature of the woven wire mesh offers robustness, strength, and uniformity to the framework by providing a non-unraveling effect that hinders any accidental damage from spreading. The gabion baskets are divided into cells by inserting diaphragms at intervals of about 1 meter.
Lacing wire is used to assemble and interconnect empty baskets and close and secure filled units. The baskets are filled with sturdy stones on-site after assembly. To strengthen the structure, all mesh panel edges are reinforced with a thicker diameter wire.
